The Criterion Collection

Label profile. Editions follow as we catalogue them.

Criterion has defined the collector's edition since 1984: restored transfers, commissioned essays, and spine numbers people track the way others track vinyl pressings. The catalogue passed 1200 numbered editions and runs from Kurosawa and Bergman to Wes Anderson.

For European buyers the label has two faces. The main line is Region A, aimed at the US and Canada. Since 2016 Criterion also publishes a UK line of Region B editions, distributed through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and those play on any European player. Criterion's 4K UHD discs are region free, so a 4K edition bought anywhere plays everywhere.

Buying in Europe: Buy the UK line or the region-free 4K editions from British retailers, or import Region A only if your player is region free. Check the disc region before you order: the same film often exists in both.
